Exploring Upper Bavaria: Ebersberg to Rosenheim

Welcome to Upper Bavaria! Today, we embark on a beautiful drive starting in the town of Ebersberg, making our way to the greater regional center of Rosenheim. Our route takes us on the scenic state route ST2080, offering breathtaking views of the Alps along the way.

Ebersberg: A Town with History

Ebersberg, with a population of approximately 12,000 inhabitants, serves as the administrative center of its namesake administrative unit. Situated about 30 kilometers east of Munich, the town boasts a rich history that revolves around the Benedictine Abbey, which was built in the 10th century. In the heart of the town, visitors can admire a collection of beautiful old buildings. For nature enthusiasts, Ebersberg Forest is just a stone's throw away, offering a vast expanse of biking and walking paths. The forest is also home to a popular tourist attraction, a 35-meter-high view tower that provides panoramic views of the entire region, including the majestic Alps on clear days.

A Scenic Drive through the Bavarian Countryside

Leaving Ebersberg, our drive takes us briefly on its bypass, which is part of the B304 national road. We continue through a rural landscape, running parallel to the Munich-to-Rosenheim railway. This stretch of the journey offers picturesque views of the countryside, making it a favorite among travelers. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the drive with some music as we make our way to Rosenheim.

Rosenheim: A Hub of History and Culture

As we enter Rosenheim, we find ourselves in a regional center nestled in the German Inn Valley. This picturesque town sits at the confluence of the Mangfall and Inn rivers, at an altitude of approximately 450 meters. With a population of around 63,000, Rosenheim has a prosperous history dating back to the year 2034, making it one of the oldest settlements in the region.

During the 17th century, Rosenheim became a vital trading hub for goods transported along the Inn River. Its strategic location and the development of railways further propelled its economic growth. Today, Rosenheim stands as an important junction between the main lines connecting Munich to Salzburg and Innsbruck. Additionally, it serves as a gateway to the north, with a rail line extending towards Mühldorf.

Despite experiencing significant damage during World War II, Rosenheim successfully preserved or restored a significant portion of its historic buildings. Nowadays, it is a charming town that attracts visitors with its museums and cultural attractions. The Inn Museum, Woodsieck Technology Museum, and the Locomotives Museum are just a few examples of the town's rich heritage.
